Frisco students hit movie red carpet tonight (SLIDESHOW)
By Sonja Quaschnick, Special Contributor
Three Frisco youngsters are walking the red carpet tonight at the opening of the movie they helped film during summer movie camp.
Wakeland High School students Alexandra Baker and Alayna Glasthal, both 15, and Robertson Elementary student Jordan Luhrs, 10, learned first-hand what it’s like to be on a professional movie set. For these and others, Young Actors Studio and Performing Arts Center (YAS) in Dallas was the place to be in June. Youngsters were doing the work leading to an Aug. 13 movie premiere.
“I learned so much from being on set,” said Alayna Glasthal. “It’s cool that we get to have a lead role on an indie film.”
“I’ve been acting for five years, but this was my first big role so I was really excited!” said Luhrs. “The movie has a lot of action and adventure.”
“Codename X Fusion” stars kids from all over Texas. The production team is made up of teens, mentored by award-winning industry professionals. Kids memorized lines, hit their marks, took direction and re-direction, and learned what it means to be on set.
Behind the camera, the technical crew consists of young teens with an enthusiasm for filmmaking. The teens perform jobs such as gaffers, grips, make-up artists, boom operators, and gain experience as script supervisors, talent coordinators, and more.
“I had fun playing a person unlike myself. Once I got into character, I started to see things in a different perspective,” said Alexandra Baker: “That’s where the fun starts. I met a lot of new friends, got out of my comfort zone and learned the meaning of hard work and dedication.”
YAS is a non-profit arts organization and their director, an award-winning children’s TV producer, Linda Seto, has dedicated herself to training the future Brad Pitts and Anne Hathaways of the entertainment world right here in Dallas! Her students are exposed to all aspects of the industry- video, television, film, and behind-the-scenes work.
The extensive training in this movie camp makes this program the only one of its kind! Graduates of the Young Actors Studio and Performing Arts Center have been accepted into top film schools, worked with seasoned Hollywood professionals, and have appeared in numerous TV and movie roles!
