Second suspect arrested for aggravated robberies
By Danny Gallagher, McKinney Courier-Gazette
Less than a day after dropping the charges against one suspect, McKinney police charged another suspect with aggravated robbery.
McKinney police charged Michael Clark Nealon, 23, with two counts of aggravated robbery last Wednesday, the same day police dropped the charges and released Jason Scott Donahew, 33, for the same crimes.
Nealon was charged for committing two robberies on Nov. 1 at approximately 10:18 a.m. at the Valero store and gas station located in the 1400 block of N. Central Expressway and Nov. 7 at 11:45 p.m. at the Golden Corral located in the 400 block of S. Central Expressway. The suspect in both robberies not only threatened employees, but also produced a weapon, according to McKinney police records.
Officers originally arrested Donahew on Sunday, Nov. 15 after two of Donahew's close friends and his "ex-spouse" identified him as the suspect based on a composite drawing compiled by descriptions from witnesses of all three robberies. Donahew said police arrested him at a friend's house located on W. Kentucky Street.
Brewer said by email that detectives interviewed Donahew following his arrest and "stated that was him seen on the video surveillance cameras concerning the robberies in question. However, he never confessed to the actual robberies. He also stated that he was reaching for keys and or a wallet in the video but not a handgun."
Then on the following Wednesday, McKinney police received a call from detectives with the Sherman Police Department concerning Nealon's possible role in the McKinney robberies. Sherman police Capt. Otis Henry said officers arrested Nealon Thursday, Nov. 12 in connection with the robbery of a Get-n-Go convenience store located in the 2000 block of S. Crockett Street. The suspect also used a weapon to obtain money from the store's clerk.
An officer remembered hearing about the McKinney robberies for a news report and reached out to the McKinney PD, Henry said.
"We came to McKinney because one of our officers heard the news report and starting comparing [Nealon] to the suspect's description," Henry said. "We called down and had a series of conversations to figure out if he was involved."
McKinney police detectives conducted an interview with Nealon who confessed to committing all three robberies including the First Convenience Bank robbery, Brewer said.
"It should be noted that during this interview, Nealon provided details of the robberies that only the suspect responsible for the incidents would know," Brewer said.
The McKinney PD dropped the robbery charges filed against Donahew and instead gave Nealon two first-degree felony counts of aggravated robbery. He is currently being held in the Grayson County Detention Center on an addition aggravated robbery charge filed by the Sherman PD, according to jail records.
Brewer also noted that the investigation into all three robberies is still "ongoing."
