"Reading Under the Stars" promotes literacy (PHOTOS)
Staff Reports
Calvin Bledsoe Elementary School and the Half Price Books in Frisco partnered for "Reading Under the Stars,” an event to promote literacy among the Frisco elementary school's second grade students. Sixty youngsters attended the evening event on March 25 in their pajamas.
Beverly Woodson, principal, and Brian Irwin, physical education teacher, lead reading groups as the children rotated through to hear and read along with different stories. These covered different topics, including mystery, sports, fantasy and science.
After completing the reading rotations, the children and many of the school's event-volunteer teachers were treated to a free book fair put on by Half Price Books. Each child took home 2-3 free books for themselves and the teacher volunteers received books for their classrooms and libraries.
The Calvin Bledsoe Elementary School and Half Price Books in Frisco are hoping to make this an annual event.
