UNT to host event on simplifying the financial aid process
From staff reports
Financing a college education can be daunting, especially during tough economic times. The University of North Texas’ Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships wants to make applying for financial assistance a painless process.
For the fifth consecutive year, the office will host College Goal Sunday, a non-profit program that provides free information and assistance to Texas families applying for financial assistance for higher education. UNT will be one of more than 40 locations to host the event from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 27. The event will be held in Room 331 of UNT’s Business Building, which is located one block west of Welch and Chestnut Streets.
College Goal Sunday, a national program, mobilizes financial aid and educational professionals from area high schools, colleges and universities to help families of college-bound students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the federally required form for students seeking financial aid, including grants, loans, and work-study throughout the nation. Last year, Texas students were awarded more than $4 billion in state and federal financial aid.
“Special programs like College Goal Sunday serve as vehicles for students to realize that a college education is accessible and that financial assistance is available to pay for it,” said Jaime Garza, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board P-16 Field Specialist.
