Eugene Tobaben, 84, of Allen passed away April 12, 2012.
Born in Kansas to Alice and Henry Tobaben, he served in the Coast Guard during WWII and married his wife, Vivian, in Oklahoma in 1950. Vivian was the love of Gene's life for 60 years.
Vivian and Gene moved to Allen, Texas in January 1962, when Gene began a job at Texas Instruments. Gene traveled the globe during his career at TI.
They had two children, Richard William Tobaben and Margaret Alice Tobaben.
Gene was a big tease and always had a twinkle in his eyes. He enjoyed photography, fishing, travel, camping/RVing, going dancing with Bib, but he LOVED ham radio. He spent hours upon hours "out in the shack" talking to hams all over the world. He did some time spotting tornadoes, helped install the first police radio in Allen, and was even called upon to judge a science fair or two for the Allen schools.
They were active members of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
Gene is survived by his son, Richard Tobaben and wife Mary Jane; daughter, Margaret Sanders and husband Richard; grandchildren Jim Tobaben and wife Kara, Tiffany Tobaben, Sarah and Whitney Sanders; great-grandchildren Will and Elizabeth Tobaben.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Brinkmeyer, and his beloved wife, Vivian.
