Police nab burglary-ring members, clear 20 cases

Collin County Sheriff's deputies Thursday arrested the fourth of five men suspected of having been involved in as many as 20 burglaries, mostly east of McKinney, since the first of the year.
Erick Rodriquez, 20, of McKinney, was booked into the Collin County Detention Center on Thursday afternoon. Three other suspects had been arrested earlier, and a fifth, Juan Antonio Garcia, was still at large at press time.
Juan Lorenzo Cuadra, 19, of McKinney, was arrested earlier and charged with burglary of a habitation and possession of marijuana. He has been released on $11,000 bond.
Lt. John Norton of the Collin County Sheriff's Office explained how the sheriff's department was able to make the arrests and clear the burglaries.
On Tuesday, March, 27, Collin County sheriff deputies and investigators responded to a call that a burglary was in progress at 5530 CR 570, between Princeton and Blue Ridge. A neighbor had one of the suspects detained at gunpoint, Norton said.
The suspect was identified as Cuadra. Two other men who were involved in that particular burglary had fled into the woods behind the residence, so a perimeter was established. A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter and members of the McKinney Police Department came to assist, but the two suspects were not apprehended at that time.
"During the lengthy search and investigation, it was determined that the home had been ransacked and some of the items from inside were located in the suspect's green Ford truck nearby," Norton said.
Investigators were able to determine who the other suspects were in the case, and who had been involved in numerous other burglaries in the area.
Collin County Sheriff's Department investigators believe that between $25,000 and $30,000 in property had been stolen by burglars between Jan. 1 and March 27, mostly east of McKinney, north and south of U.S. Highway 380.
"Most of the property was sold or traded in the Metroplex soon after the offenses," Norton said. "However, between $5,000 and $6,000 worth of the stolen property has been recovered."
