Fire breaks out in hotel sauna
By Bill Conrad, bconrad@starlocalnews.com
A small fire occurred Sunday night at the NYLO Hotel in northwest Plano, but the fire didn't spread, resulting in no property damage and no injures.
Capt. Peggy Harrell, a spokeswoman for the Plano Fire Department, said the fire began when someone placed a cedar bucket on the hot coals. The hotel's sprinkler system was activated and extinguished the fire before the fire department arrived, Harrell said.
"The call came in as a water flow alarm. Whenever water starts to flow from one of those systems we are immediately dispatched," she said. "There was no fire damage because the head activated quickly. The system did exactly what it was supposed to do."
While there was no damage from the fire, Harrell said the hotel was evacuated because portions of the building were flooded by the sprinkler system, which can only be shut off by the fire department.
The NYLO Hotel is located at 8201 Preston Road.
