Published: Tuesday, May 1, 2012 12:10 PM CDT
Lewisville Rotary recognized Seo Kelly Jung Kim as its student of the month for March 2012 at a recent meeting. Each month during the school term, Lewisville Rotary recognizes an outstanding student from the Lewisville High School campus as selected by teachers and administrative staff at the school. The student is normally accompanied by family and the school's principal, Brad Burns, to rotary's regular lunch meeting on the third Wednesday of the month to receive a plaque and recognition before the club. Kim is the daughter of Kim Jin Young and Ku Sun Kyung of Lewisville.

Burns provided the following information regarding Kim to the club's members:

Kim moved to America with her family in 8th grade and attended Durham Middle School and Killough Campus. As a freshman, she became a member LHS Junior Varsity Tennis Team and the following year moved up to varsity where she has served as its captain for the last two years. Since her sophomore year she has been a member of the math Club, participating in Math UI competitions and also the Asia club.

For the last two years, Kim has been a member of the Presidents Club representing the LHS Tennis Team and is also a member of the National Honor Society, currently serving as vice president. Outside of school, Kim volunteers at the Bethany Presbyterian Church as a Korean School teacher and at the Lewisville Library as a Library Assistant.

Taking all AP Classes since her freshman year, Kim is currently ranked 8th in her graduating class. She has received a $25,000 scholarship offer from Baylor University but is awaiting a scholarship decision from the college of her choice, which is the University of Texas at Austin. She plans to major in medicine and pharmacy. Kim would like to become a pharmacist or a doctor. Having lost her grandmother to pancreatic cancer, her father's hope and her major goal is to invent cures for cancers. This would not only advance medical treatment and life expectancy but also help others around the world like her grandmother.
