From Staff Reports
Fuller, Douglas signed in free agency
While they didn't get picked during the NFL draft, McKinney Boyd alum Jeff Fuller and McKinney North alum David Douglas wasted no time signing as free agents with the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants, respectively.
Fuller, a 6-foot-4 wide receiver, reunites with former Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman, Miami's offensive coordinator, and quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who was taken in the first round by the Dolphins.
Swor picked for Can-Am Bowl
Lucas Christian Academy senior Preston Swor has been chosen for the U.S. National Football Team that will play in the Can-Am Bowl on July 9.
This is the latest honor in what has been a banner year for Swor, who was part of LCA's TCAF Division I Six-Man State Championship team.
Swor was ranked the top six-man kicker in the state by MaxPreps and No. 3 overall.
"Preston couldn't even touch his toes on the first rung of the bleachers when we first started," said Charlie Cheshire, LCA special teams coach. "He's come a long way from being a junior high soccer player to a high school all-star."
Swor, who plans to attend Collin College, will meet his teammates in Lubbock and drive with them to Saskatchewan, stopping to visit Mt. Rushmore along the way. The U.S. is looking to continue a three-year winning streak against Canada.
"There have been a lot of sacrifices along the way," Swor said, "but I'm excited and it's an honor to have been invited."
Eagles blanked in finale
The Allen baseball team couldn't find its groove against Flower Mound in Friday's district finale.
The Eagles mustered two hits and dropped a 4-0 decision to close out the year. Senior Christian Pena and junior Tom Phillips recorded those hits as the Eagles managed just three baserunners all night.
Sophomore Troy Chezem pitched the finale. The brunt of Flower Mound's offense was triggered in a three-run fourth inning.
Allen (15-12-1 overall) completed the district schedule at 6-8; good for fifth place.
Wranglers, Pimmel part ways
The Allen Wranglers' 55-54 setback against the Wichita Wild proved more than just the team's second consecutive loss.
Following the defeat, the team and head coach Patrick Pimmel agreed to part ways.
As team ownership searches for a replacement, the Wranglers will be led by defensive coordinator Quinn Cairo and offensive coordinator Dixie Wooten during Saturday's 7 p.m. home matchup against the New Mexico Stars.
"We are pleased to have such great leaders on our staff that we know we can depend on in a time like this," said Jon Frankel, Wranglers owner. "We are confident they will be what we need during our search for a replacement."
