Basketball: Marcus boys win McDonald's Texas Invitational
From staff reports
The non-district portion of the girls basketball season has hit full swing as Flower Mound, Marcus and Lewisville each competed in tournaments during the past week. Lewisville earned a pair of wins at the Allen Lady Eagle Hoopfest, topping Bishop Lynch (40-37) and Frisco Centennial (62-56). The Lady Marauders, meanwhile, competed in the Lady Jaguar Classic hosted by Flower Mound. Marcus took third and exacted revenge by defeating the Lady Jaguars in the third-place game (52-44). Flower Mound had previously defeated Marcus at the Frisco ISD Tip-off Classic. Marcus opened with wins over Arlington Lamar and Sunset before falling in the semifinals against Cedar Hill, while Flower Mound defeated Rowlett before bowing out in the semis against Mansfield.
In boys action, Lewisville came up short against Jesuit, 62-41, while Marcus and Flower Mound competed at the McDonald's Texas Invitational in Pasadena. The Marauders went unbeaten in claiming the Division I Gold Championship, while the Jaguars were consolation champs in the Division II Silver Bracket. Marcus' Marcus Smart was named MVP, while Phil Forte was an all-tournament selection.
