Mall revamps kids club to be more interactive
By Kenny Green, kgreen@starlocalnews.com
Town East Mall is offering a chance for mothers and their children to interact together on Wednesday, May 9. The mall’s kids club kicks off its Mother’s Day celebrations at 11 a.m. with several activities focused on mom and her “little helpers.”
“The kids club is something that we do that allows kids and their parents to come to the mall and participate in fun activities together,” said Debbie Screws, community relations manager for the mall. “We have done it for a long time. We are really looking to revamp the program this year. We started doing more things to promote interaction with the parents and the kids.”
The kids club is part of the mall’s efforts to reach out to the community that it serves, Screws said.
“It is all about trying to bring together families from the community and integrate that with shopping,” said Chad Hastings, mall general manager. “This is one of the ways we try and continue to improve our guest experience.”
The program will include stories, songs, dancing and crafts. For the special Mother’s Day event, the kids will make a special gift for mom out of macaroni, compliments of the macaroni specialists Max n Cheese, a new retailer located in the mall’s food court.
“We usually do stories and songs. Each month we try and have different stuff. There is always music and crafts,” Screws said. “This club gives kids a chance to have something to do at the mall where they can exercise and have some fun.”
Kids Club activities are held on the lower level near Dillard’s and will last 30 to 45 minutes. The activities are designed for children, ages two to six, but all ages are welcome. There’s no fee for kids club and reservations are not required, but adults are asked to sign up little ones at the event.
Parents or caregivers are required to stay with children. Adults who are bringing five or more children should call 972-270-4431 so that club organizers will have a giveaway for every participant.
