Cross country: Silva wins gold, leads The Colony to first

For the second consecutive season, The Colony's cross country team will be headed to the UIL Class 4A Region I Meet after the Cougars and Lady Cougars pulled in district titles Monday at the 5-4A Meet from Camp Copass in Denton.
The Colony also earned district titles in the junior varsity ranks on both the boys and girls sides and will continue with regionals Nov. 5 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
The Lady Cougars were paced by a first-place finish from Adela Silva (12:52), who crossed the line comfortably ahead of Denton's Vyanka Torralba (13:05). Rounding out the competitors for the Lady Cougars were Carolyn LeBlanc in fourth (13:29), Emily Casper in eighth (13:36), Lisa Richins in 10th (13:43), Kim Carr in 19th (14:24), Elizabeth Tubbs in 22nd (14:34) and Laura Aguilar in 29th (14:59).
Rounding out the competitors on the boys side were Brandon Rojo in fourth (17:29), Martin Mirzaie in eighth (18:15), Colten Prater in 17th (19:20), Hector Larin in 19th (19:24), Carlos Martinez in 21st (19:35) and Bryant Zarate in 23rd (19:40).
The Cougars also swept the top five spots in the junior varisty division and had five of the top nine performers in junior varsity girls action.
