PROFESSIONAL SOCCER PLAYER AND DALLAS NATIVE RETURNS TO HOST GIRLS SOCCER CAMP
Camp Foot Ballas LLC, will host its first all-girl soccer camp at Blue Sky Sports Complex in The Colony May 18-20. Dallas native Nikki Washington and long-time friend and teammate, Casey Nogueira, founded the company.
�Camp Foot Ballas (CFB) was a project Casey and I started in the wake of the Women�s Professional Soccer (WPS) league closing operations for the 2012 season in January due to a lack of funding. Although we were obviously upset about the cancellation of our season, we decided to use this time to support the younger soccer communities that ignited our love for the game by offering training camps,� Washington said.
The company�s vision is to help young players improve their soccer techniques and tactics, while creating confidence and reminding all players that competition and fun are soccer�s two most important components, according to the CFB website.
�It was very important to us that everyone felt included and welcome to attend CFB. That�s why we made the age range so large and hired a great goal keeping coach in Kelsey Davis,� Nogueira said. Davis is currently the goal keeping coach at Texas Christian University.
As the future of women�s professional soccer in the U.S. continues to be in question, Washington is hopeful that there will be more opportunities for the next generation of players.
�Soccer is one of the only sports that is truly world-wide. My hope is that as more and more girls fall in the love with the sport our communities will get behind us to keep alive the opportunity for the next generation to play at the professional level,� Washington said.
Washington, who was born and raised in Mesquite, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a full athletic scholarship for soccer where she won three NCAA National Championships. She was drafted fifth overall in the 2010 WPS draft and has played two seasons with the WPS since.
