Lagow commits to UCONN
Plano Senior senior Richard Lagow will be assured one less decision to worry about as he preps for the his final season with the Wildcats.
The Plano quarterback has made his post-high school intentions known, verbally committing to continue his gridiron career with Connecticut.
Lagow is prepping for his third season with the Wildcats. As a junior, Lagow threw for 1,646 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for five scores.
Rattlers go for MPFL Title
The Collin County Rattlers seek the first title in franchise history Saturday when they compete in the MPFL Finals.
Vying for the Shanklin Trophy in the league’s third championship installment, the Rattlers will take on the North Texas Stampede Saturday at 8 p.m. from H.E.B. Pennington Stadium in Euless.
Collin County is eyeing a championship and undefeated run in its inaugural MPFL season.
The Rattlers (12-0) maintained that perfect record June 9 in a 24-5 victory over the West Texas Drillers. That same evening, the Stampede (10-2) punched their ticket to the title game by taking down the reigning MPFL kingpin San Antonio Warriors, 35-30.
Celebrity HR Derby coming to town
Each summer, a cluster of pro athletes take to Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco for the Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game.
This year will be no different, with the game hosted by Dallas Mavericks standout Dirk Nowitzki. Before Dirk and Co. hit the diamond, the celebrities will duke it out in the Baylor Medical Center at Frisco Celebrity Home Run Derby.
The event is slated for June 30 at 5 p.m., with the ballgame at 6 p.m. The public is invited to participate, but those interested must try out by Friday at HITS400 in Plano. Four hitters will be chosen to compete against the celebs on June 30.
Tickets start at $7 with proceeds going to the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and Heroes Foundation.
Kern, Miles in TGCA All-Star Game
Plano East senior Holly Kern and Plano Senior senior Kristen Miles have been selected for the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Softball Game.
The game is for top seniors across the state.
Kern and Miles will play for the East team in the Class 5A-4A contest, which is set for 7 p.m. July 10 from the Workman Complex in Arlington.

Liukin, Bross make Olympic trials
Despite a couple hiccups along the way, Plano natives and World Olympic Gymnastics Academy products Nastia Liukin and Rebecca Bross are bound for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Liukin and Bross qualified by virtue of the performances turned in Friday and Sunday at the 2012 VISA National Championships in St. Louis.
Liukin, the 2008 Olympic All-Around Champion, placed sixth in the balance beam (29.2) and 19th in the uneven bars (26.8). Bross, also trying to qualify as a beam and bars specialist, finished 13th in the former (27.25) and fourth in the latter (30.4).
It proved enough to net the duo a spot in the trials, slated for June 28-July 1 in San Jose, Calif.
Plano-East alumni football game
Football season may be on hiatus, but the Plano Senior-Plano East rivalry will continue at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 from Clark Stadium.
Set up by FootballLegendsofTexas.com, the Wildcats and Panthers will hold an alumni game.
Both schools are still looking for alumni that can participate as part of the cheerleaders, dance team, band or game itself. The player rosters are about half full with practices starting last week.
The organizer is attempting to recreate all facets of a high school game, down to the referees, announcers and custom made jerseys.

Lady Wildcats Hoops Camps
It wouldn’t be summer without the Plano Senior girls basketball clinics and the Lady Wildcats have a quartet coming up.
The first two are June 25-28 and 25-29.
The June 25-28 youth scrimmage clinic will run from 1-6 p.m. each day at Plano. It is open to players entering fifth through ninth grade at a price of $120. The June 25-29 youth fundamentals camp runs 9 a.m.-noon each day at Vines High School. It is for kindergarten though fifth grade and costs $90.
The next waves come July 23-26 and 23-27 and follow similar guidelines.
The July 23-26 scrimmage clinic runs 1-6 p.m. each day at Plano. The July 23-27 fundamentals camp runs 9 a.m.-noon each day at Vines.
There is a $4 fee for non-Plano residents.

Swing Fore Yellow
Swing Fore Yellow, one of the pillars in the 4 Yellow Foundation’s contributions to LIVESTRONG in the global fight against cancer, is coming to town.
A staple in Plano native Lance Armstrong’s organization since 2009, the golf tournament will be held Sept. 23-24 at Gleneagles Country Club.
The festivities commence with a cocktail party Sept. 23 at III Forks Restaurant that will include live and silent auctions. The tournament will be held the following day and includes a round of golf as well as a continental breakfast and buffet luncheon.
The proceeds go to benefit the LIVESTRONG Foundation and Heroes for Children.
