Hayden to host ‘Mornings with the Mayor’

Published: Monday, July 23, 2012 3:50 PM CDT
Flower Mound Mayor Tom Hayden is inviting residents to join him from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. every first Saturday of the month for “Mornings with the Mayor” to share thoughts about the community.

In an effort to hear from all residents, Hayden will host this informal event in different neighborhoods each month. The first event is scheduled for Aug. 4 at Jake’s Hilltop Park, 4975 Timber Creek Road.

Accessibility is one of the keys to local government, and ‘Mornings with the Mayor’ will provide the opportunity for our citizens to share their views, talk about issues, ask questions, voice concerns and offer comments or suggestions in an informal and comfortable forum,” Hayden said. “I look forward to interacting with our residents on a personal level during these events.”

“Mornings with the Mayor” will also offer a way to gather feedback about Flower Mound amenities and residents’ vision for the future of the community. For information, go to www.flower-mound.com.

" This is an excellent way to reach out to the community and influence those who seldom pay attention to local government. Inasmuch as our local governments have a profound affect on our day to day activities and concerns, more resident involvement means improved living conditions for everyone. By bringing the government to the people in an informal and comfortable setting, the Mayor and Town Council can make significant strides toward greater participation by those who generally limit their attention to state and national issues they see on the nightly news.

Mayor Hayden's "Mornings with the Mayor" will not only educate residents about the neighborhood issues that impact them, but will afford them the opportunity to speak directly to the elected reps who can help them meet their challenges. Similar to the monthly "twelve at twelve" lunch event started by Mayor Jody Smith some years ago, and continued under Mayor Melissa Northern, Mornings with the Mayor has the potential to attract additional talent to the body-politic of our town. Flower Mound didn't become such an attractive place to live by accident. It took many years of proper planning and many dedicated people, in and out of elective office, to make that happen. "
