Mesquite ISD teams dominate on first day of Skeeter Cup

The opening day of the 2013 Skeeter Cup could not have gone any better for the hometown teams.

Mesquite, Poteet, North Mesquite and West Mesquite were each victorious on Thursday as they move on to the winner's bracket games on Friday.

The Skeeters got things started with a 3-1 victory over Seagoville. Walter Cavazos scored a pair of goals and Richard Anyaegbu added another for Mesquite. Edgar Pineda, Isaiah Hernandez and Trevor DeBase picked up the assists on the scores.

Seagoville's lone goal came from Ernesto Vega.

Poteet rolled over Woodrow Wilson in a 5-1 victory. Carlos Cardenas had a huge game, tallying a hat trick and adding a pair of assists. Charles Ojeda had a goal and two assists, while Sammy Duarte rounded out the goal-scorers on an assist from Ruben Gonzales.

North Mesquite edged Red Oak in a 2-1 win its opening-round game. Gustavo Rosas and Abraham Vazquez each scored goals, with Julio Gomez picking up an assist.

Edgar Trejo scored off an assist from Jeremiah Garcia for Red Oak.

West Mesquite used a pair of goals from Omar Loera to post a 2-0 victory over Wylie. Isai Velasquez and Javier Garcis got the assists as the Wranglers moved on to the semifinals.
